Vickey Lewis Receives Region “I”

John Burwell Excellence in EMS Award

Region “I” was pleased to award Mrs. Vickey Lewis the John Burwell Excellence in EMS Award last night at its annual award banquet in Winston-Salem, NC.  Lewis is the manager of emergency resuscitation services at The Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and a prior coordinator of life support education there from 1986-2001. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Winston-Salem State University in 1978 and began her career shortly afterward at Baptist Hospital as a staff nurse in the emergency department. Family, friends and colleagues gathered with Lewis at the Quality Inn to share in her award and speak on her behalf.  All through the evening words such as, “compassionate,” “leader,” “mentor,” “friend” and “passionate” were used to describe her career in the pre-hospital and hospital setting.
